Media: Apple optimizes iPhone energy consumption using AI
Apple will introduce an AI-powered battery management mode in iOS 19, which will be released in September. This is reported by Bloomberg citing sources.
According to the publication, the improvement will analyze the user's device usage and make adjustments for energy savings.
The new technology will be part of the Apple Intelligence platform. To develop it, the company is collecting data on battery status from user devices to identify common patterns and predict when it is advisable to reduce the energy consumption of specific functions.
Additionally, a gauge will appear on the lock screen showing the necessary time to charge the device.
The step is a continuation of the company's strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into gadgets. It announced Apple Intelligence in June 2024 and has since been regularly adding new AI features. However, the implementation is accompanied by delays, which senior director of Siri, Robby Walker, described as "shameful and frustrating."
A key step towards energy efficiency will be the release of a compact version of the iPhone 17 - a simplified alternative to the standard and Pro models. Due to the slim design, the smartphone will have a much smaller battery and, consequently, a reduced number of hours of operation compared to other gadgets.
Through energy consumption optimization, Apple aims to compensate for the physical limitation of the battery. At the same time, the feature will be available for all iPhones with iOS 19.
The company is also preparing an updated "Health" app with an AI doctor codenamed Mulberry and a number of other changes.
Recall that in December 2024, Apple released a software update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, adding support for ChatGPT in the Siri voice assistant.
