In Belarus, a resident of Grodno who extorted bitcoins has been sentenced.

According to the investigation, in 2024, two criminals, introducing themselves as electricians, entered the apartment of a resident of Minsk, and for several hours tortured the victim, threatening with an air pistol.

The accused handcuffed the man and repeatedly shocked him with a taser, demanding he transfer them 5,750 BTC, but the victim refused to comply with their demands. Ultimately, the perpetrators tied him up and gave him a day to think it over, after which they disappeared.

According to Kirill Chubkovets, the deputy head of the Main Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus, law enforcement agencies were able to detain one of the attackers, while the second managed to escape abroad.

In addition to the prison term, the convicted person was fined 500 basic units (21 000 Belarusian rubles). The sentence has not yet come into legal force and can be appealed.

Earlier in Paris, three masked men attacked a woman — the daughter of the CEO of a cryptocurrency trading platform. The attackers tried to forcefully drag the woman and her child into a cargo van.
