A signing ceremony originally aimed at promoting peace in Africa unexpectedly made a female journalist from Angola the center of attention. At the signing site of the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Angolan journalist Hariana Veras was invited to speak, where she elaborated on the ground situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the attendees. Her speech caught the attention of Trump, who not only praised Veras's statement but also complimented her 'beautiful appearance and even more beautiful heart.' This scene immediately sparked widespread discussion on social media.
Veras's career is nothing short of legendary. Born in 1984 in Malanje, Angola, she entered the journalism industry at the age of 18. She has worked for several well-known media outlets in Angola, including the newspaper "Folha 8," "Angolense," and Orion TV. In 2007, Veras moved to the United States, where she served as a press assistant at the Angolan Embassy in Washington for 9 years.
It is worth mentioning that Veras has become the first Angolan female journalist to receive White House accreditation, which allows her to report on news from important institutions such as the White House, the U.S. Senate, the State Department, and the Pentagon. In addition to this, her reporting scope also covers international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.
Veras's experience showcases the rise of African women on the international news stage and highlights the increasingly important role of African journalists in global news reporting. Her story is not only a reflection of personal achievement but also represents the progress and enhanced influence of African journalism on the international stage.
