In the field of cryptocurrency, the price potential of XRP has been a hot topic of discussion. Some believe it could reach an astonishing height of $10,000, but such claims are often seen as overly optimistic. Based on the current supply of about 59 billion, XRP reaching $10,000 would mean a total market capitalization of about $59 trillion, a figure that far exceeds the sum of global GDP, stock markets, and real estate values, which seems unrealistic at first glance.
However, this issue is not that simple. We need to reconsider how to evaluate the value of XRP.
The traditional "market capitalization formula" may not apply to XRP. Unlike major digital assets like Bitcoin that primarily rely on scarcity and holder confidence, XRP was designed to be a bridge asset for international settlement. Its main use is to achieve real-time settlement between global financial institutions, rather than long-term holding.
Ripple is collaborating with banks and governments around the world to build a new generation of payment infrastructure. They have developed products such as xCurrent and xRapid, with the former enabling end-to-end traceable cross-border payments, while the latter utilizes XRP to provide instant liquidity without the need for pre-funding. Recently, Ripple even applied for a banking license in the United States, planning to connect to the Federal Reserve payment system to further expand its influence.
This unique positioning means that financial institutions adopt a "pay-as-you-go" approach when using XRP, completing payments through the rapid flow of funds rather than holding it long-term. This usage model may have a significant impact on the value of XRP.
Additionally, if a destruction mechanism is introduced in the future, the price trend of XRP may experience more dramatic changes. Although there is currently no specific destruction plan, this possibility is worth paying attention to, as it may affect the supply dynamics and value positioning of XRP.
Overall, assessing the potential value of XRP requires us to step outside traditional thinking patterns and consider its unique application scenarios and market positioning. While a target of $10,000 may sound overly optimistic, the future development of XRP is still filled with infinite possibilities.
